Earth Week contest

Earth Week contest: keep plastics and clothing out of the Chennai dump and help the HS in the contests against ES and MS.

Start gathering: NHS will collect your donations every morning this week.

Dear AISC Community

Earth Week – HS students coordinating this year’s events are looking to raise students’ understanding of how water – too much or too little – impacts our lives here in Chennai. We are collecting Water Stories.

What is a Water Story? It’s you, telling us about your experience during the Chennai floods. Maybe your house flooded, your power was out for days, or you captured your home or neighbourhood’s experiences in a photo.

You have two ways to share.

1. BE A PART OF THE EXHIBIT: share your written, audio or photographs through this survey link before Earth Week.
2. RECORD YOUR STORY IN AUDIO FORM: During Earth Week, we will have a recording station in the exhibit for you to share your stories in audio form.

Stories in all languages will be accepted.

Please reach out to Archisha Sarath (sarchisha26@aischennai.org) or Shari Abbott (ashari@aischennai.org) for more details.

Hey High School!

Prom is approaching soon, and we need your help!

To honor the Class of 2024, we are making a collage of their favorite moments. We are asking you to upload any pictures you have of the current seniors to the Google form linked below. Fill it out as many times as you need! The more pictures, the better!

ALSO

We’d really appreciate it if you could come up with senior superlatives for your 12th-grade friends. Please fill out the linked form below to do so. Superlative example: “Most likely to win the funniest teacher award” (answer: Mr. Killmer).

Call for Book Swap books!

The AISC libraries are preparing for our 3rd annual Earth Week Book Swap (April 25 & 26). The best book swaps have the most books. Do you have a shelf of books that you read but didn’t love? A shelf of books that you know you’ll never read? Or a shelf of books that you have outgrown? Now is the time to clean out those shelves. We welcome any and all books, in any condition. Books can be dropped off in either library.

For every two books donated, you will receive one ticket for a book at the book swap. Thinking you don’t need anymore books? Give your tickets to a friend! Only tickets may be used on Thursday, April 25. On Friday, April 26, books will be for sale for 10rps; proceeds will go to Shishu Shakti, our 2024 RISE partner.

Summer School/Summer Programs

As we are nearing the end of the school year, there are some exciting opportunities available to you during the summer break. Whether you’re looking to catch up on credits, explore new interests, or would like to have a taste of the university/college experience – there are options. Please make an appointment to meet with Ms. Francis regarding university summer programs. There’s something for everyone.

AP and IB Study Leave

Students taking IB and AP exams but who are not full Diploma students can avail of “study leave” to revise for exams. Students are excused for the two blocks (a half-day) prior to the exam to study and are excused for the two blocks during which their exam is scheduled.  For example, if a student has a Monday afternoon exam, they are excused from the Monday morning blocks to study as well as the Monday afternoon blocks to sit their exam.

Alternatively, if a student has a Tuesday morning exam, they are excused from the prior afternoon (Monday) as well as the two blocks on the morning of the exam. This study leave does not apply to Monday morning examinations (students may not take Friday afternoon off to revise).

Finally, if a student has a morning exam, they are expected to attend classes that afternoon after having lunch.

Please find the study leave schedule here. The study leave document link is here

When not sitting an exam or on official study leave, students are expected to attend their classes until (a) their AP/IB external examination in that class or (b) until senior exams begin (for non-IB/AP classes).
